Ravelympics 2008

I participated in the Ravelympics for Team Splurk and decided my event would be the Afghan Marathon....for non rav/plurking people: This means I decided to cast on a knitted afghan at 8am on 8-8-08 and to cast off by the closing ceremonies, Beijing Time.

Day 1
08/08/08 8:08am
Cast on: Hemlock Ring Afghan
Yarn: Berroco Cuzco in Oliva 682.5 yards used
Needles: US Size 10 double points, 29" circ and 40" circ

Ending Day 1 at 66 as seen below

Day 2
08/09/09
You can see the cute stitch markers April made me that I used for this project!

ended day 2 on row 88

Day 3
08/10/08
With a sever sinus headache all day I was able to work on this and finished off at 11:oopm EST
I then wove in the ends, washed and blocked the afghan.
Here it is stretched out on a queen sized bed drying. The finished size is 45" from point to point.
Not a huge afghan more something to throw on your lap but given the fiber content of 50/50 Alpaca/Wool it's more then warm!

It's now dry but will wait till there is sun light for better photos.

I only entered this one event thinking I would need many more days to finish this project so I'll just support my team mates from here till the end.

Newest Swap

So what have I been up to other then school, finals and getting all set for my sister in laws wedding in the DC area???

Another swap of course, well theres been a few but I wanted to share these.

First, the premise of this swap was to make a new friend somewhere in the world. To send them items about you, your favorite things, some small crafted items and over time to send larger items based on what you found out about them. Now being my first day free from the abive mentioned going on's I'm just going to post the large for now.

This is what I sent her
Photobucket
Photobucket

and what she shipped me
Photobucket

I had so much fun, even though we labled the afghan I made as the incredible shrinking afghan because it seemed to shrink instead of grow row by row. I made a wonderful friend in Australia who made me a wonderful item and is enjoying her snuggly afghan now that they are headed into the colder season in the land down under.

Day 1

Day 1!
Well my partner had 2 items in her profile, one was a motif afghan odne in grays' reds and whites. The other was a scrap quilt and she had relayed to me her love of granny square afghans and she didn't care if they were made from scraps of yarns left over from other projects. Well I bought a new book that had this afghan on the cover and I fell in love and had to make it.
I ALWAYS over buy on yarn, buy clearances, if it strikes my fancy I'll buy at least a skein. So This was either random skeins I had, partial skeins left over from other projects, actual scraps because I'll ball up 12inches or more of yarn to save for later.
these, she stated, were her 2 favorite motifs. I thought it was funny because I loved these 2 but they worried me most as she disliked yellow and wans't a huge fan of purple. So I'm glad she adores it and I hope she has it for years to come (and the cat can even shed on it I won't mind lol)
I received and will post more pics later, a Beautiful felted handbag. I love purses, purses, shoes, coats and sweaters...I'm a typical female there. It's the perfect size for me. You can't tell to well from the picture but it's a chocolate brown bag with red stripe, then the needle felted circles are a brown/green/red colorway all bordered with the red accent color.
Inside was a small change purse the perfect size for credit cards and such in a pretty corduroy stripe with a red zipper. I loved it al so much I immediately started using it, thus the crappy pics, because, we were leaving for my in laws not long after this was taken so it's been in use since and I've been busy since. I will take better pics though because it's beautiful and I want everyone to see how much better it really can look.
